Women’s Tennis Extends Winning Streak to Four With 6-1 Win at Drake

OMAHA, Neb. – Behind strong doubles and fantastic singles play, the Creighton women's tennis team extended its winning streak out to four with a 6-1 win over Drake on Saturday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
The win lifted the Bluejays to 4-1 on the season, while Drake fell to 0-6 overall. The win was just Creighton's second win over the Bulldogs since 2008.
"This was our most complete match of the season," said head coach Tom Lilly. "We knew we would have to play well to beat Drake, and I was proud of the steps we have taken in both doubles and singles. We are improving every day and hopefully getting healthier."
Creighton used doubles a 6-3 win at the No. 2 doubles position from junior Ana Paula Martinez and freshman Olivia Minikel, as well as a 6-3 victory from seniors Valerie Negin and Bianca Rademacher at the top doubles position to clinch the first point of the match.
In singles play, the Bluejays quick captured the dual win with victories at the top four singles position.
Rademacher added to the Bluejays tally with a 6-1, 6-0 rout at the top singles position, while Martinez cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the No. 3 singles spot. Negin then clinched the overall dual with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 singles position.
Drake captured their lone point of the match with a 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 three-set win at the No. 5 singles position, before Cote grinded out a 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 6 singles spot. Freshman Pippa Roy then closed the match with a convincing 6-4, 6-4 triumph at the No. 4 singles spot to secure the 6-1 win for the Bluejays.
Creighton returns to the court on Sunday morning at 10 a.m., when they host Idaho at the Hanscom Tennis Center in Omaha.
