GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Creighton women's tennis team had its seven-match winning streak snapped, falling 5-2 to North Dakota on Friday afternoon at the Choice Health and Fitness center in Grand Forks, N.D.
The Loss dropped the Bluejays to 8-3 on the season, while the Fighting Hawks improved to 5-7 with the dual win.
"We just didn't have enough today," said head coach Tom Lilly. "North Dakota is well coached and had their full line up for the first time and played some great tennis. Credit goes to their players and staff for a complete match."
North Dakota claimed the hard-fought doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. Alva Norberg and Andrea Pineda captured a 6-1 win on the No. 2 doubles court to take an early advantage, only to see sophomores Alem Cote and Sophie Schwartz level things up with a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot. UND, however, rallied to clinch the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the top doubles to secure the first point of the match.
The Fighting hawks proceeded to claim straight-set victories at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions, as well as a three-set win at the No. 6 singles spot to clinch the overall dual.
Cote captured the Bluejays first point of the contest, recording a 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 10-6 three-set win on the No. 5 singles court, while Schwartz rallied from a one-set deficit to pick up a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 three-set win on the top singles court to close the match.
The Bluejays will be back in action tomorrow morning when they take on Minnesota Crookston at 10:30 a.m. in Grand Forks.
