Women’s Tennis Completes Unbeaten Home Slate With 5-2 Win Over South Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team closed out a perfect 7-0 home schedule with its 10thconsecutive home win by defeating South Dakota, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center in Omaha.
Creighton improved to 13-4 this spring, capping off its first undefeated home season in program history. South Dakota meanwhile fell to 5-11 overall.
In a back-and-forth battle early, Creighton earned hard-fought doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. Senior Ana Paula Martinez and sophomore Sophie Schwartz cruised to a 6-0 win on the top doubles spot to give the Bluejays an early advantage. South Dakota responded with a 6-4 win on the No. 3 doubles court, before senior Annika Elvestrom and sophomore Olivia Minikel claimed a 6-4 triumph at the No. 2 doubles position to clinch the first point of the match.
The Bluejays continued their winning ways into singles, quickly grabbing a 3-0 lead with straight set wins on the No. 4 and No. 6 singles courts.
Freshman Livia Rodrigues Daud picked up her ninth consecutive straight sets singles win, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win on the No. 6 singles court. Elvestrom would then claim a 7-5, 6-1 straight sets win at the No. 4 singles spot to give the Jays a 3-0 advantage.
South Dakota answered with a 6-4 ,6-3 straight sets win at the top singles position, before Teresa Tran clinched the overall dual with an injury retirement win on the No. 3 singles court.
With the match already decided, South Dakota earned a 6-4, 7-5 win from Kayleigh Didderiens on the No. 2 singles court, before sophomore Alem Cote claimed a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 triumph at the No. 5 singles spot to capped off the Jays 5-2 victory.
Creighton will return to the courts on Wednesday, April 8 as they travel down I-80 to battle in-state rival Nebraska at 5 p.m. in Lincoln.
