Women's Soccer Suffers 7-1 Loss to #5 Georgetown

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team fell to #5 Georgetown 7-1 on Thursday, Oct. 4.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 4-8-0 on the season and 1-3-0 in BIG EAST play, while the Hoyas moved to 11-0-2 overall and 4-0-0 in BIG EAST action.
Georgetown opened the scoring in the 16th minute as Paula Germino-Watnick scored an unassisted goal on a crossing shot from just 20 yards away. The Hoyas added two more goals in the first half, scoring in the 24th and 29th minutes.
The Hoyas pushed their lead to 5-0 early in the second as Germino-Watnick added a second goal, followed by a second goal from Caitlin Farrell for Georgetown.
The Bluejays got on the board in the 56th minute on a series of crisp passes. Junior Cassie Legband got things rolling from the right corner, sending a pass to sophomore Keelie Fothergill in the middle. Fothergill stopped the ball, then deftly sent it five yards to the right for an open shot by junior Taryn Jakubowski. The Illinois native delivered her third goal of the season to get Creighton on the scoreboard.
Before the final horn sounded the Hoyas added two more goals, one coming from Farrell as she notched a hat trick.
Georgetown out shot the Bluejays 26-5 in the match,
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 7 as the Bluejays host Seton Hall at 12:00 pm.
