Scouting Creighton (3-4-0)
Every team opens the season with a sense of optimism and hope. Kicking off the season with five consecutive road matches as well as an inexperienced goalkeeper, sitting at 3-4-0 with one non-conference match remaining is about where the Bluejays expected to be.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Katie Sullivan has been solid throughout the season, entering the match against #20 Oklahoma State with 22 saves and 12 goals allowed in seven matches.
Offensively the Bluejays have scratched the scoreboard in each of the last five matches, including back-to-back contests with two goals. The offensive consistency can be attributed in part to increased production from freshman Aline Reinkober, who leads the Bluejays with two goals on 14 shots.
Scouting #20 Oklahoma State (6-1-0)
After having a slight dip during the 2016 season to 9-9-3, the Cowgirls returned to the NCAA Tournament last season. Oklahoma State advanced to the Second Round last season and are off to a 6-1-0 start this season. The Cowgirls have climbed to No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Association Poll. The Cowgirls lone loss came at Illinois (Aug. 31) by a 2-1 score. The Cowgirls have responded with three straight victories.
Leading the offense are Marlo Zoller and Haley Woodard as the duo have scored a combined seven of Oklahoma State's 16 goals. Zoller leads OSU with four goals, while Woodard has three.
The Cowgirls have split time in goal between sophomore Dani Greenlee (312 minutes) and freshman Hannah Warner (324 minutes). Greenlee has allowed three goals and nabbed seven saves, while Warner allowed one goal and collected 15 saves.
Reinkober Collects First BIG EAST Honor Roll Selection
Reinkober led the Bluejays' offense in their 2-1 overtime win over South Dakota on September 6. The rookie scored her second goal of the season just 4:35 into the contest and tied for the game high with four shots.
Creighton Posts Consecutive Wins for the First Time In Just Under Two Years
With consecutive victories over South Dakota State (1-0) on Sept. 2 as well a 2-1 overtime win versus South Dakota on Sept. 7, the Bluejays posted consecutive wins for the first time since Oct. 6 & 9, 2016. That season Creighton bested Seton Hall (4-0 on Oct. 6) and St. John's (2-0 on Oct. 9).
Bluejay Offense Finding Consistency
After suffering shutouts in the first two matches of the season, Creighton's offense has started to find a way to push the ball into the back of the net. The Bluejays have scored in each of the last five matches, including two goals in consecutive contests. The last time Creighton scored in at least five consecutive matches was at the onset of the 2016 match when the Bluejays tallied at least one goal in 13 matches.
Atkinson Making her Impact Felt in the Midfield
In her first seven contests freshman Ansley Atkinson has delivered an immediate impact as the midfielder has helped the Bluejays maintain possession and dished out two of the Bluejays' four assists.
