Omaha, Neb. -- Despite playing one of their best matches of the season, the Creighton women's soccer team fell to Oklahoma State on Friday, Sept. 14 by a 2-0 score.
The loss moved Creighton to 3-5-0, closing out the Bluejays' non-conference schedule. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, moved to 7-1-0 on the season.
The Cowgirls got both of their goals in the opening half, scoring on two set pieces. The first came in the 27th minute as Kim Rodriguez sent a corner kick into the box. Grave Yochum came charging from just outside the box to head in the goal, her second on the season.
Just over five minutes later the Cowgirls took advantage of a questionable foul call as Oklahoma State scored on a set play just beyond the top of the box. Three Cowgirls touched the ball as Marlo Zoller slid the ball two yards to the left, which was quickly stopped by Julia Lenhardt. Kim Rodriguez came running from three yards away to strike the ball for her third goal of the season.
Although the 20th-ranked Cowgirls claimed the win, the Bluejays were impressive as Creighton fired off 13 shots, including four on frame. In addition, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Katie Sullivan delivered a career-high 13 saves. Among Sullivan's stops she denied a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Sullivan's 13 saves ties for the fourth most in a single match in Creighton history. The total is tied for the second most at Morrison Stadium.
In the match Oklahoma State out shot Creighton, 28-13. The Cowgirls closed the match with a 13-2 edge on corner kicks.
