Looking to Bounce Back, Women's Soccer Heads to Chicago

Omaha, Neb. -- Coming off a tough 2-1 loss at home to St. John's on Thursday, the Creighton women's soccer squad tries to bounce back as the Bluejays battle DePaul on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1:00 pm.

Series History: Creighton Trails DePaul, 0-5-0
The Bluejays head to Wish Field looking to claim its first result against DePaul. Creighton and the Blue Demons have met five times previously, all coming since the Bluejays joined the BIG EAST Conference. Creighton is 0-2-0 against DePaul in Chicago and have been outscored 14-3 in the series.

Scouting Creighton (4-6-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST)
The Bluejays were the aggressor in the first half of Thursday's contest with St. John's, but the Red Storm came out with the win courtesy of two second half goals. Although the Bluejays suffered the loss, Creighton closed the match strong with a goal from freshman Ansley Atkinson in the final mintue of the match.
After opening the season with five consecutive road contests, the Bluejays are in the midst of six home matches in eight contests. In their first four home battles the Bluejays went 2-2.
Setting aside a poor performance at UMKC, the Bluejays have played very well in the month of September (3-3-0). During the month redshirt freshman Katie Sullivan has two shutouts, but has allowed nine goals in six matches.
Scouting DePaul (5-4-2, 1-1-0 BIG EAST)
DePaul opened the year with four wins over six matches (4-2-0), outscoring their opponents 14-5. However over its last five contests the Blue Demons have gone 1-2-2, getting outscored 5-4. In DePaul's two BIG EAST contests the Blue Demons bested Seton Hall 3-0, then fell to #7 Georgetown 3-0. Sunday will be DePaul's home BIG EAST opener. This season the Blue Demons have allowed just two goals at Wish Field in five matches.
Franny Cerny and Morgan Turner are both offensive forces as the duo have scored a combined 11 goals. The player Creighton, however, may focus its defense around is Avery Hay as she has set the tabel for the Blue Demons with three assists.
In goal DePaul has relied primarily on Mollie Eriksson, who has allowed just 10 goals in 11 matches.
Freshman Ansley Atkinson's First Goal was a Beauty
Coming in the final minute of a 2-0 contest, freshman Ansley Atkinson's goal against St. John's may not have gotten the attention or appreciation it deserved. Cominn on a set play after a Red Storm foul, senior Maureen Kerr sent a pass into the box. Atkinson blast a crossing shot into the back of the net with 19.9 seconds remaining. It was Atkinson's first goal as a Bluejay.
