Battle with the Coyotes Kicks Off Seventh Annual Socctoberfest
Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team is ready beyond ready to open its 2018 home season. So ready in fact they're kicking off the battle with South Dakota on Friday, Sept. 7th is the kickoff of Creighton's 7th Annual Creighton Socctoberfest.Â

Socctoberfest is a celebration of the Bluejay men's and women's soccer programs. The event is open to all Creighton fans and cost is $25 per person for advance reservations and, subject to availability, $30 per person at the door. The event includes a live band, a commemorative 20-ounce Creighton Socctoberfest glass stein, a 20-ounce draw and a meal ticket. Additional 20-ounce draw refills will also be available for purchase. Individuals under 21 are welcome but proof of age will be required at the event's entrance and wristbands will be affixed to those of legal drinking age. Walk-ins are also welcome but register in advance online to make sure you secure your commemorative Socctoberfest stein by clicking on this link: http://gocreighton.com/socctoberfest. Scouting Creighton (2-3-0)
Battling through five consecutive road matches, the Bluejays have started to find a rhythm with a goal in each of their last three contests. In addition the defense has started to gel, posting two shutouts in the last three. Â
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Katie Sullivan has collected 13 saves on the season, but her teammates have added two team saves as well.
Following the win at South Dakota State on Sunday, head coach Ross Paule noted how proud he was of his teams' energy. "The response our squad gave from the end of the match with Eastern Michigan through this match was the best of the season. I' confident that energy will continue or go to another level when we finally get in to play in front of our home crowd on Friday."
Scouting South Dakota (2-1-2)
Coming off a 4-13-0 season in 2017, the Coyotes made a coaching change. South Dakota has responded with four results in its first five matches, including consecutive victories as the Coyotes come to Omaha.
Junior Kellee Willer leads the offense for South Dakota with two goals and three assists. South Dakota managed just 13 goals in 2017, but enters the battle with the Bluejays with eight goals in five matches.
Senior goalkeeper Parker Rytz has two shutouts on the season, collecting 29 saves and allowing just six goals on the season.
Scouting UMKC (4-2-0)
The Roos are off to a fast start with four victories and have allowed just six goas on the season. UMKC dropped its last match, a 2-1 loss to Missouri State on Sept. 2. Before hosting Creighton on Monday, the Roos will face off with Kansas State on Friday.
Senior Kelsey Motherhead has been a force on the pitch already in 2018, tallying six goals and one assist (13 points) in the opening six matches of the season.
While Motherhead has guided the offense, senior goalkeeper Anna Lillig has directed the defense. Lilling has appeared in four of UMKC's six matches, allowing six goals for a 1.49 GAA. She has 16 saves. Equally impressive has been freshman netminder Afton Fennewald, she has posted two shutouts in wins at Western Illinois and versus Drake.
Sullivan Named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll
Sullivan earned Creighton's first BIG EAST Honor Roll spot as she collected two shutouts for the Bluejays' first two wins of 2018 during the week of Aug. 27 - Sept. 2. In matches with Nebraska-Omaha and South Dakota State, Sullivan delivered 1-0 victories. She collected nine saves during the week, facing 48 shots. She allowed two goals, both in a 2-1 loss to Eastern Michigan.
Creighton Looks for First Consecutive Shutout Since 2016
Coming off a 1-0 win over South Dakota State on Sept. 2, the Bluejays try to post consecutive clean sheets for the first time since Oct. 6 & 9, 2016. That was also the last time the Bluejays posted consecutive victories.
Aline earning an A+ in the early portion of her freshman campaign
Freshman Aline Reinkober sparked the Bluejay offense with the first goal of the season on Aug. 27 as the German native delivered the game-winning score to vault the Bluejays to a win over Nebraska-Omaha.
Reinkober was equally involved in the Bluejays win over South Dakota State as her pass off a defender put senior Kaira Houser in position to score the eventual game-winner over the Jackrabbits.
Szarka Insertion Along the Backline has Paid Dividends
While Reinkober has sparked the Creighton offense, freshman Morgan Szarka has helped the defense gel.
Szarka saw her first action at Air Force, playing just 27 minutes against the Falcons. The ensuing match she was inserted into the starting XI at Nebraska-Omaha. Over the last three matches the Bluejays have two shutouts and have allowed just two goals in over 270 minutes. Â
New Bluejays Making an Impact
Reinkober and Szarka can claim the headlines, but the Bluejays' newcomers have gone far beyone those two. Through five matches Creighton has played a combined 4,950 minutes.
The group of new Bluejays account for 1,852 minutes (37%). The group can also claim one of Creighton's three goal and the only assist of the season.
