Women's Tennis Winning Streak Ends At Drake With 6-1 Setback

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Creighton women's tennis winning streak ended at three matches after a 6-1 loss against Drake on Saturday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bluejays moved their season record to 6-3, while the Bulldogs improved to 6-4.
Creighton picked up a pair of victories against Drake, one in doubles and one in singles.
Joanna Nowakowska and Erin Epperson combined for a 6-2 win at the No. 3 doubles position to tie the early action after the Bulldogs secured a win at the No. 2 position. Drake clinched the first point of the match with a close 6-4 win at the top slot.
Malvika Shukla earned Creighton's lone singles victory with a straight-sets win during the No. 5 match. The freshman won a tiebreaker in the opening set before winning 6-3 in the second.
The Bluejays won the opening frames at both No. 2 and 3 before falling in three-sets at both positions. Sarah Wilcox won 7-5 in the first set at No. 2 but fell 6-4 in the second and was outlasted in a 10-point breaker, while Emma Gener won 6-1 in the opening set at No. 3 before dropping the second 6-4 and deciding frame 6-0.
Creighton returns to the courts on Friday at South Dakota. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
