Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Trip To Florida With 5-2 Win Over Connecticut College

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Creighton women's tennis team closed out its spring break trip to Florida with a 5-2 victory over Connecticut College on Friday afternoon at the Oak St. Courts in Orlando, Fla.
The Bluejays improved to 9-6 on the season, while Connecticut College fell to 3-5 overall.
Creighton wasted no time earning taking a 1-0 lead, earning wins at all three doubles positions. Senior Valerie Negin and freshman Olivia Minikel opened play with a 6-2 win at the top doubles position. With the win at the top doubles spot, Negin moved into a tie for fourth with Jennie Hartjes on the all-time career doubles wins list with her 62nd doubles win of her career.
Freshmen Alem Cote and Karli Vo then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on the No. 2 doubles court, before sophomore Elsa Jurrens and freshman Philippa Roy captured an identical 6-3 win at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Connecticut College drew even at 1-1 in singles play, earning a default win on the No. 6 singles court as Creighton played with only five players.
Leveled at 1-1, Creighton took control of the match, claiming straight set wins on the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles courts. Roy cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win on the No. 2 court, while Cote captured a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 singles sport to give the Bluejays a 3-1 lead.
