Fast Start Propels Women’s Tennis to 4-3 Senior Day Win Over St. Thomas

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team us a strong doubles performance and three straight sets singles victories to propel the Bluejays to a 4-3 senior day victory over St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
With the win, the Bluejays improved to 12-4 on the year, while the Tommies fell to 5-9 overall.
Creighton came out with purpose, clinching the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Senior Annika Elvestrom and freshman Karli Vo soared out to a 6-2 victory on the No. 3 doubles court, while sophomores Olivia Minikel and Sophie Schwartz delivered a 6-4 win at the top doubles spot to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.
Elvestrom built upon the Bluejays early momentum, earning a 6-1, 6-2 straight sets victory at the No. 4 singles spot to push the Jays advantage out to 2-0. With her win today, Elvestrom moved into the top 25 in program history with her 94th career win.
Sophomore Alem Cote would then extend the Bluejays lead to 3-0, claiming her ninth win in her last 10 matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win on the No. 5 singles court. St. Thomas answered right back with a 6-4, 6-4 straight sets win on the No. 3 singles court from Lily Olson to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Creighton, however, would clinch the overall dual moments later when Livia Rodrigues Daud picked up her eighth consecutive singles win, cruising to a 6-1, 6-4 straight sets win on the No. 6 singles court.
With the match already in hand for the Bluejays, St. Thomas added a pair of three-set wins on the top two courts to cut the overall deficit to 4-3.
Creighton will return to the courts and close out the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, April 1 when they host South Dakota at 12:30 p.m. inside the Hanscom Tennis Center.
