Women's Soccer Falters in Kansas City, Falling 4-2 at UMKC

Kansas City, Mo. -- After falling behind 2-0 in the opening ten minutes, the Creighton women's soccer squad fell to UMKC 4-2 on Monday, September 10.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 3-4-0, while UMKC moved to 6-2-0.
The Roos hopped out in front with a goal from Lexie Howard in the third minute, scoring from directly in front of the goal courtesy of a pass from Kelsey Mothershead. Just over five minutes later Reighan Childers converted from the left side of the goal box on a shot that elicited assists from Rylan Childress and Lexie Howard.
Creighton pulled back within striking distance in the 30th minute of played as sophomore Cassie Legband pushed home a goal on a feed to the front of the goal from sophomore Keelie Fothergill.
UMKC answered in the 35th minute as Amanda Sampson headed in a corner from Reighan Childress as the Roos took a 3-1 lead into the half.
The Roos pushed their edge to 4-1 in the 59th minute as Lexie Howard found the back of the net a second time, scoring once more off an assist from Kelsey Mothershead.
Before the end of the match the Bluejays got a late goal from junior Kylin Grubb, scoring from six yards out off a crossing pass from junior Taryn Jakubowski.
The Bluejays were out shot in the match 15-11, but held an 8-5 edge in corners.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Friday, September 14th as the Bluejays host Oklahoma State at 7:00 pm.
